Creating a Series
Tuesdays, July 17-August 7, 10am-2pm (open studio 2pm-5pm)
Winslow Art Center, Bainbridge Island, Washington
This workshop is designed to take students through the process of creating a small body of work (5-7 pieces) from conceptualization to completion. Participants will meet over four consecutive weeks for work sessions, critique, support, and discussion of the next step forward. Pieces may be drawings, paintings, or mixed media.

Photography as Source for the Artist
Saturday and Sunday, July 21 & 22, 9:30am-4:00pm
Winslow Art Center, Bainbridge Island, Washington
This multi-media drawing workshop explores multiple strategies and techniques encouraging the use of photographic source as a springboard, rather than a restriction, for self expression. Using lecture, discussion, demos, critique, and drawing techniques, this intensive course teaches students how to use photographic reference as the point of departure for creativity.

Figure Drawing
Thursdays, May 31-June 28,  6:15-9:15

Designed for students of all levels, this five week course covers fundamentals of proportion and anatomy while encouraging individual expression and interpretation. Combing both traditional and contemporary approaches, instruction includes: understanding of form, skeletal, and musculature structure, as well as the figure in space. Students will learn to construct the figure using live models, photography, and principals taken from fashion illustration.

Drawing Fundamentals
Wednesdays, May 30-June 27, 10am-12:30
Winslow Art Center, Bainbridge Island, Washington
Drawing is the gateway to self expression and It’s never too late to learn. This five week course covers all the basics starting with how to hold a pencil and ending with choosing your own subject matter. In an atmosphere of support and encouragement, students will acquire skills enabling them to render objects, landscape, and architectural forms. Topics include line, value, composition, and color. Beginning to Intermediate level.

Foundations of Painting
Wednesdays, May 30-June 27, 2018, 2pm-5pm
Winslow Art Center, Bainbridge Island, Washington
This dynamic five week course is designed for beginners as well as those wanting to brush up on the fundamentals. Using acrylic or oils, students will work from a variety of sources including still life, landscape, and photography. Topics include: composition, materials, color mixing, glazing, impasto, and the power of brush strokes.

Sketching on Location
Free to all students.  Fridays, June 1-29, 2018, 1pm-4pm.

Sketching is a powerful way to “see” and experience the world. This dynamic six-session course teaches students to record their impressions and visions on paper.
