At the Alhambra Hotel, London

Too much luggage.

The dress clothes, art supplies, electronics, toiletries, and coffee fixin accoutrement had gained weight apparently…or had I gotten weaker? The answer turned out to be yes. I had picked up a case of Covid on the boat, but didn’t know it yet, as we arrived at our tiny (boutique!) hotel room-with no air conditioning, three floors up, and no lift. And did I mention London was experiencing an unprecedented heat wave?

While Rita toured the Tower of London, I spent an entire day in bed eating nothing but the ginger chews we had brought along in case of sea sickness.

Despite the trials and tribulations (what exactly is a tribulation?), the city welcomed us.

Next up: Shepard’s Bush and the tube strike!

Project Description:
For more than three months I traveled-Thailand, the US, England, Portugal, and Spain. Drawing and painting is a powerful way to capture a specific place and time. Here are 20 works documenting the epic journey. They are not pictures of the most beautiful sights, or historical treasures, but rather a documentation of where I slept along the way. They represent a jumping off point for remembrance.

In the Mirror series here.  Drawings and paintings done on location whenever I am away from home. An artist/traveler’s visual diary.

  1. Rita

This room was the tiniest, and too make it even more fun, we had to sleep with our heads opposite of each other. I’m glad Amy didn’t have stinky feet. Lots of love in a very small space.
