Not every subject appears worthy.
My “In the Mirror” series often requires making magic out of the mundane. It also forces me to work when I’m decidedly not in the mood. In this case, a delayed flight left me stranded in Dallas at The Quality Inn. I was aggravated, tired, and in need of a hot bath. But duty calls!
Working under pressure, both time and energy wise, often brings out the best. I simplify, make crooked lines and splotchy brush strokes. These are good things if you ask me. There is no overthinking or fussiness. I paint on autopilot, trusting all the work that came before will show me the way.
