Collage Land

What IS collage anyway? In addition to the defining elements of paper and glue, collage conjures up images of bold and colorful shapes-hard edged forms juxtaposed with texture, pattern, and line.

I’m currently living in a collage.

The visual landscape of Chiang Mai is a wild mix of color, line, hard edges, soft edges, intersections, competing textures, and overlap. It’s no wonder I’ve started using collage in my work. Art and life come together when you’re doing it right.

As much as I hate to admit it, I used to think collage was a medium for people who can’t draw. Little did I understand the creative possibilities of being able to rearrange artistic elements in endless configurations while making decisions on a composition. I am embracing the power of overriding previous moves with nothing more than a new selection and some glue. In short, I’m having a ball.

The only downside is that I cannot bring myself to throw away even the smallest scrap of paper. You never know when it might come in handy. And god forbid I should turn on the fan.

Absolutely delicious, Amy! I love the direction your work is going. I wish I could see the images in person and experience the textures.

I hope this note finds you well ❤️
